Can seller fees be refunded?

  • If you issue a refund very shortly after an order is paid, the transaction is voided, which means it is reversed before settling.  This voids the order before any fees are billed. Since no fees are billed, there are no credits issued, and you won’t pay a Refund Deduction.  The transaction will say Voided on your Orders page.
  • If you issue a refund after the payment has settled, Tophatter will pay the buyer for the refunded amount, and you will still receive the original disbursement.  A “Refund Deduction” will be added to your Fees for the amount disbursed to you. In other words, you will not pay seller fees on the transaction. The transaction will say Refunded on your Items page.
  • Seller Fees may not be refunded on some orders. In the scenarios listed below seller fees will not be reimbursed to the seller if the order is refunded.
    • When a late item is never marked shipped, a dispute will be opened and the order will be refunded.
    • When an order is marked shipped with a tracking number, but the package is never accepted by the shipping carrier, a dispute is opened, and the order is refunded.  
    • When a seller refunds an order that does not have a request from the buyer for a refund.
    • When a return request is filed for a low-rated product and the order is refunded.

Please note that Scheduling fees are not reimbursed when an item is refunded.

Shipping Labels

  • Shipping labels purchased through Tophatter can be voided if they are not used. Used is defined as being scanned by the carrier. If you void a purchased shipping label, you will automatically be reimbursed. If a purchased shipping label is unused, it will automatically be voided and you will be reimbursed.
  • If an order is refunded prior to the shipping label being used, the shipping label will be voided, and you will automatically be reimbursed.
  • If an order is refunded after the shipping label has been used, the shipping label fee cannot be reimbursed.
  • If you purchased a shipping label from Tophatter and a package was returned to sender due to an invalid buyer address, you may be eligible for reimbursement of the shipping label. Please contact support with the order number if you would like us to look into an order for you.
  • Sellers are liable and will be invoiced a Postage Correction Fee for shipping overages for shipments that do not match the postage class purchased.
